What documentation do I need for ESA verification?

If you are applying with an ESA companion, you'll be asked to upload verification of your companion's ESA status to your application. Please review to be sure you have the correct documentation!

Your Emotional Support Animal will not be considered a pet provided appropriate documentation. By providing verification of ESA status, pet fees/deposits will be waived and your application will be considered for properties that otherwise have a 'no pets' policy.

Verification of your companion's ESA status most often comes in the form of a letter from a licensed healthcare professional including, but not limited to:

  • Licensed therapists
  • Licensed counselors
  • Social workers
  • Psychologists/ Psychiatrists
  • Nurses and Nurse Practitioners
  • Physicians and Physician Assistants

ESA letters should be on the healthcare professional's official letterhead and include their contact and licensing information. Be sure the healthcare professional's license is current and in good standing.

Note: Under law, there is no certification which qualifies an animal as an ESA. Certifications purchased from online sites will not be considered verification of your companion's ESA status.
